Local Residents ‘Cheered’ as they Learned the Truth about Shincheonji Church
Local residents caught the public’s attention as they swarmed into Shincheonji Church of Jesus to resolve the misunderstandings and prejudices about Shincheonji Church of Jesus. A representative from Shincheonji Church invited them to engage in open dialogue and asked them to objectively evaluate Shincheonji Church.
Busan-James tribe’s Masan branch (branch head Pilseong Park and assistant head Sung-gon Jang) of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Chairman Manhee Lee) hosted an Open Bible Seminar under the themes ‘The Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil’, and, ‘Matthew Chapter 13: Two Kinds of Seed and The Harvest’ at their Masan branch church on the 25th April at 2pm and 7pm, respectively.
On that day, 300 local residents participated in and cleared up their misunderstandings and prejudices about Shincheonji Church. Moreover, they agreed on the Biblical explanation about the true meaning of religion. Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has endured widespread slander by the Korean Church, invited locals in to weigh up the church with their own eyes and ears.
Before the seminar started, the Assembly official of Liberty Korea Party, Mr. Hanhong Yoon (Masan), sent a congratulatory message via telegram, writing: “I congratulate today’s Open Bible Seminar on Revelation. This event will resolve the misunderstandings and prejudices about Shincheonji Church. I hope local residents can verify this with their own eyes, and I hope today’s session will create an opportunity to objectively evaluate Shincheonji church. I wish good health and blessings for all participants and their families.” Mr. Kim, who is head of the neighborhood, also sent good wishes for the “Prosperity and development of Shincheonji Church of Jesus”.
Ms. Soonook Jung (Cultural City Construction Committee), Changwon city councilwoman for the Democratic Party of Korea, participated in the 7pm seminar.
Among the participants, Mr. and Mrs. Kim who currently attend a Presbyterian church said, “We came to learn that Shincheonji church is not a strange place as the Korean Church has made out. I heard that Shincheonji steals money or confines people, but we definitively checked that this is not the case through the Bible seminar.” Mr. and Mrs. Kim will also join the Open Bible Seminar on the 26th.
A mother from a different faith said, “I always used to worry about my child going to Shincheonji Church, but I won’t do so anymore because I have checked it myself. I misunderstood Shincheonji Church according to what others said about it. I’m so glad that I came today.” Ms. Soonim Jeon from Masan’s Habpo district said, “Our life is so manic but I believe we will learn many things if we study the Bible.” She also shared her views about Shincheonji Church and expressed her desire to join Shincheonji Church’s Bible study, saying “I have had an interest in Shincheonji Church because one of my friends goes there. She originally didn’t have any faith so I was surprised that she had found a life of faith true to her. Now I want to know more about the Bible as Shincheonji Church can explain it verse-by-verse. It’s very interesting to learn that there are two kinds of seed and two types of people who are differentiated according to these seeds. I’m sure I will enjoy studying the Bible at Shincheonji Church of Jesus. We make a lot of mistakes because of our inability to discern between what is good and evil.”
Mr. Bumgil Kim who lives in Masan district’s Seokjun neighborhood said, “I came here because I heard there is an Open Bible Seminar, and I wanted to know about the Word. I want to know how the Second Coming of Christ will take place today.” Ms. Soonyoung Joh from Masan’s Sanho neighborhood said, “I used to go to church, but I don’t go anymore. Shincheonji Church say that the end of the world is the time of harvest while other churches say it marks the end of the world. Shincheonji Church’s words are new and unfamiliar, but amazing. I’m very glad to listen to the words of Shincheonji Church.”
Mr. Park from Haeun neighborhood said, “One of my friends goes to Shincheonji Church. People around me say Shincheonji Church is not a good place but I think it is really good that I joined in today’s event at Shincheonji Church. I want to study the Bible and come even more now that people have spoken so badly about the church. I have another appointment tomorrow but I will cancel it to come to Shincheonji Church. Shincheonji Church’s words are totally different from those of the established Church. I believe that Shincheonji Church’s teaching is absolutely spot-on. I want to go and learn more if there are future seminars.”
Moreover, local residents enjoyed a post-seminar tea break, with some admitting, “We misunderstood Shincheonji Church of Jesus so much”.
Mr. Pilseong Park, head of Masan branch, explained that Shincheonji Church of Jesus was created according to the Bible through a comprehensive explanation of Genesis chapter 1, Matthew chapter 13 and the book of Revelation to help participants’ understanding. The lecturer emphasized, “We prepared the Open Bible Seminar on Revelation to resolve the misunderstandings and prejudices about Shincheonji Church of Jesus, and to spread the true meaning of religion and purpose of faith. We carry out the words of Jesus who said, ‘Say yes to what is right, and no to what is wrong’.”
Busan-James tribe’s Masan branch (branch head Pilseong Park) of Shincheonji Church of Jesus will continue their series of seminars on the 26th (2pm and 7pm) under the title “Matthew Chapter 24: The Second Coming of Christ and Signs of the End of the World. How it was fulfilled in Revelation.”
Last month, Shincheonji Church of Jesus carried out a blinded experiment, surveying which of the two explanations - one of which included Shincheonji Church’s doctrine - was more Biblical. The origin of the doctrine was not revealed. Most participants decided on Shincheonji Church’s doctrine. After the source of the doctrine was revealed, participants’ responses were split across the categories ‘prefer not to answer/don’t know’ (50%), ‘I choose the other’ (40%) and ‘I keep my first choice’ (10%). One citizen who participated in the survey said, “I chose the doctrine taught by Shincheonji Church of Jesus. I am embarrassed because of the bad rumors spread about Shincheonji Church of Jesus”.
A representative of Shincheonji Church of Jesus said, “The established Church has expressed hostility towards Shincheonji Church of Jesus by spreading malicious rumors and causing people to misunderstand it. It’s a very sad fact. But local residents have resolved their misunderstandings about Shincheonji Church through its Open Bible Seminar. I received many ‘Thank you’ messages from participants for having been invited.”
The Masan branch has also been putting their love of Jesus into action via voluntary acts, standing as a role-model for voluntary service within the local community through programs such as ‘Beautiful senior, Bravo life!’, ‘Pink Cloth with Love’ (involving cooperation with neighborhood teams), ‘Street-Cleaning’, ‘Wall-Painting Stories with Hope’, and more.
